Practice MCAT Question - Q26 - Answer!

If the magnitude of the charge on two identical charged bodies is doubled, the electrostatic force between the bodies will be

A.  doubled.
B.  halved.
C.  quadrupled.
D.  unchanged.

The correct answer is (C). From Coulomb’s law, F = k(qqq2)/r2, force is directly proportional to the product of the two charges q1 and q2. If both charges are doubled, their product is quadrupled and so is the electrostatic force.
