Practice MCAT Question - Q98 - Answer!

The biceps brachii muscle flexes the lower arm, whereas the triceps brachii extends the lower arm. Which statement is correct about the biceps brachii and triceps brachii muscles?

A.  One has its origin on the lower arm.
B.  One has its insertion on the lower arm.
C.  Both have their insertions on the lower arm.
D.  Both have their origins on the lower arm.

The correct answer is (C). Both muscles cause movement of the lower arm (flexion and extension). Therefore, the insertions of both muscles must be on the lower arm. The origin is the muscle’s attachment site that does not move.
