When an electron moves from a 2p to a 3s orbital, the atom containing that electron:

A.  becomes a new isotope.
B.  becomes a new element.
C.  absorbs energy.
D.  releases energy.

C is correct. The atom must absorb energy in order for one of its electrons to move to a higher energy level orbital.
