Practice MCAT Question - Q91 - Answer!

Females have a higher amount of adipose tissue in the skin. Where would this be found?

A.  Epidermis
B.  Dermis
C.  Hypodermis
D.  Stratum germinativum

The correct answer is (C). The hypodermis (subcutaneous layer) contains adipose tissue and loose connective tissue. The epidermis is stratified squamous epithelium. The stratum germinativum is the mitotic layer of epithelium in the epidermis. The dermis contains most of the complex structures of the skin (hair follicles, glands, blood vessels, receptors, etc.) and relatively few adipose cells.
