MCAT Question A Day - 2/21/14 - Answer!

The solubility of AgCl in water can be increased by

A.  adding NaCl.
B.  adding AgNO3.
C.  adding AgCl.
D.  None of the above

The correct answer is (D). The first two choices will decrease the solubility owing to the common ion effect. The third will have no effect, since as long as some solid is present at equilibrium, any more will not change the concentrations of ions.
